KANTATE

23.-25.05. 2025, Music Installations Nuremberg, St. Egidien Church

Kantate – a Latin word in the imperative, meaning “sing!” – refers to a form of multi-movement works for one or more voices with accompaniment. Inspired by the Baroque architecture of the Egidienkirche in Nuremberg, director and performer Lulu Obermayer, together with her brother, visual artist, DJ, and club owner Benjamin Röder, is developing an architectural intervention that transports the sacred space into a new dimension.

The Egidienkirche, whose origins date back to the 12th century and which is located on the slope of the Nuremberg Castle, becomes a place of physical and psychological reorientation. A minimalist transformation of the space leads to a redefined perception where past and present come into contact with one another. The organ, as a central element of the work, and the voices of the performers activate the space together. Their bodies and singing blur the line between the human and the divine, creating a space for transcendental experiences.
