20.09./21.09./22.09./23.09.2018, HochX Theater und Live Art, Munich
Following her interpretations of Puccini's Tosca and Manon Lescaut , Lulu Obermayer delves into his third opera, La Fanciulla del West is set during the 1849/50 California Gold Rush. In The Girl(s) of the Golden West opera intersects with Western film, challenging traditional portrayals in both genres. Instead of the solitary cowboy, the performance examines Minnie—a character atypical for both Westerns and operas—for her feminist potential. Obermayer weaves her own narrative into Minnie's fictional world, creating a female-centric (dream)scape that blends personal biography with operatic myth.
